In addition to having hand-built Threshold and supervised literally hundreds of various artists and bands sessions here at the studio, Producer/Guitarist James Walsh has always focused on bringing like-minded people together and blending resources. In 2005, Threshold and James Walsh Productions expanded their footprint within the 440 W. 41st Street facility to include new office suites (occupied by music related services, marketing, media, management) and a songwriting suite occupied by partner Sheldon Steiger (Joss Stone, Beu Sisters, Joe Jackson, etc.). James and Sheldon have their eye on independent artist development. The new company, Major Who, is a true realization of a lifetime of experience and represents all that’s great and exciting about music and what can be accomplished in today’s music industry with the right resources and friends. Recent projects include Ellie Lawson and Wes Hutchinson.

In addition to all the great gear that the studio offers, James’ collection of guitars, effect pedals, and amplifiers are always a highlight a band's session at the studio and he is always ready to share and pop-in with the right combination of colors for the part. Recording with James is quite fun, efficient, and successful. ...Less | More...
2006 has seen James and company perfecting the art of Analog recording with Digital editing at the studio and the results have been nothing less than spectacular. For James, this is what the studio had always been built for. With the combination of the sounds of the rooms and the collection of gear, engineers, and producers; professionalism and workflow is at the top of its game and a lifelong dream. There are only a few great rooms in NYC left to work in and Threshold is widely recognized as one of them. One typically has to spend much more to come close to what Major Who and Threshold offers in studios and productions. ...Less | More...
3, 4, to 5 piece productions usually thought to need much larger space come together quite nicely in the main studio with all the isolation (or not) required for modern recording techniques. Drums kill in the live room and overdubs have lots of flexibility and room colors to work with. The sense of community translates into every recording. "After all", James says, "What else are we here for?" ..Less
The importance of the song is undeniable, but producing a song is about capturing its essence and presenting it so that the listener 'gets it'. The factors that contribute to that are endless. AJ knows that overall the attitude and vibe of the artist's studio experience is equally as important as the right piece of gear for the task at hand. "It's really a big collaboration between the artist the producer and the engineer. The energy of that relationship can make or break a song. Collectively you have to know what you're 'going for' when you're in the studio. Having experience in all of those areas helps bridge the gaps and really execute the goal." AJ spent years playing and writing music before he began to focus on producing. More...
During his transformation to producer he literally transformed the once sparse basement rehearsal room into a fully functioning production suite he dubbed Twitch Music. With a few more years of engineering and writing, AJ Expanded Twitch into Threshold Music, building it by hand, with ex-bandmate and new partner James Walsh. It was during this period when AJ was the main engineer for Threshold and also writing and performing in a host of bands that his fascination of capturing the song came about. With a serious passion for all things Rock-N-Roll, AJ is also comfortable and has work with many other styles of music. Always on the look out, AJ can help you bring out the best in your next project. ..Less

"One only needs to Google up Johnny's credits to know you are about to get into the room with a legend. A little known fact - but Johnny was the first engineer I ever worked with as a recording artist in a pofessional studio - "The kid" unplugged me from a rack of pre's and effects directly into a premarshall "Park" amplifier and changed my life forever. (BTW-we still have the amp). His ability to capture and shape sound is half the reason and inspiration for my building a studio in the first place. His natural ability to bring out the best in everyone he works with is an unbelievable thing to experience. Its great to have him as part of our immediate circle of engineers that rock the rooms at Threshold."
